I am 17 years old, when should I change my replacement identity card?
A person who has obtained an identity card for the first time at the age of 12 is required to change his/her identity card again upon reaching the age of 18.
If the conversion is made within the age period of 18 to 25 years, there are no fines.
I am 25 years old and still do not have an identity card. What do I need to do?
Applicants must be present at any nearby NRD office to apply for a late check of identity card.
The applicant and the organizer must be present together for the interview by bringing the following documents:
- Birth Certificate/Adoption Certificate/ Form W
- Entry Permit/Citizen Status Verification
- Organizer Identity Card
I am a foreign national and have obtained an entry permit from the Malaysian Immigration Department.
You are eligible to apply for a Permanent Resident identity card (Red).
Documents needed
- Entry permit
- Passport
- Copies of related documents
The application fee is RM40.00 and the application can only be made at the Putrajaya NRD or the State NRD Headquarters.
Will a fee be charged in the event of damage to my identity card chip?
If the chip damage is not due to negligence and occurs within one year from the date of card submission, replacement is provided free of charge.
If more than one year, a fee of RM10.00 is charged.
How much will I be charged if I lose my identity card?
Identity card loss fee is charged based on the amount of loss. Please refer to the official NRD payment schedule.
How long can MyKad applications be completed?
MyKad can be completed within 30 minutes for applicants who choose collection at the NRD Headquarters or offices that have distributed printing machines.
Completion period:
- 5 working days in Peninsular Malaysia
- 7 working days in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan
This period only involves unproblematic applications.
Can I change my address without changing my identity card?
No change of address on the identity card chip without the issuance of a replacement card.
Does the NRD accept payments other than cash?
Yes. NRD accepts electronic payments via:
- Credit Card
- Debit Card
- MEPs

I have lost my identity card a second time. What do I need to do?
You must attend the nearest NRD office with a police report stating the reason for the loss of the identity card.
