Marital Status Verification Letter

Application to obtain a Status Confirmation Letter for Civil Marriage for Malaysian citizens abroad for the purpose of marriage or other purposes. This Status Confirmation Letter is only issued to Malaysian citizens who are not Muslims.

The validity period of the Marriage Status Confirmation Letter is six (6) months from the date of issue.

Applications can be submitted at all NRD offices and Malaysian Representative Offices abroad.

All documents must be certified at the Malaysian representative office before the documents are posted.

Applicants must submit a statutory declaration stating the individual's current status and the purpose of the application.

Police officer

Confirmation Letter of Permission to Marry (original and copy) or;

Appendix A (HRMIS) complete signed by superior officer.

Military officer

Confirmation Letter of Permission to Marry from the place of duty (Original and Copy)

Only complete applications will be accepted and processed.

The applicant must submit any supporting documents requested by the NRD officer, if required

Applications for a domestic marital status verification letter may only be submitted at NRD Putrajaya or a State NRD Headquarters.

This confirmation letter is issued to:

Non-citizens or both non-citizens who intend to marry in Malaysia; or

Malaysian birth registers with undetermined citizenship status, not a passport holder and never intended to apply other nationality for the purpose of marriage; and

Malaysian adoption registers with non-citizen status, not a passport holder and never intended to apply other nationality for the purpose of marriage. One of the adoptive parents must be a Malaysian citizen.

Vietnam Citizen

Affidavit from the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia for all documents issued by the Government of Vietnam.

British Citizen

Affidavit of singleness from the United Kingdom must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra).

All certificates and supporting documents that are not in Bahasa Malaysia or English must be translated by a certified translator and fully signed with the original stamp of the translator's office.

If the translation is prepared abroad, it must be authenticated by the relevant authority:

The Embassy of the relevant country in Malaysia, or a Malaysian Representative Office in the relevant country.

Applications involving licenses must first obtain license approval. Please refer to the license application process.

The AM80 Statutory Declaration must be completed for the following categories of applicants:

• Applicants with children outside of a legal marriage

• Partners outside a legal marriage

• Applicants over the age of 40
