Application for Letter Verifying Marital Status
- Application for a letter confirming marital status can be applied for at the Putrajaya Headquarters NRD and the State Capital NRD.
- Application to obtain a Letter of Confirmation of Marital Status for non-Muslim Malaysian citizens for use within the country or abroad.
- The validity period of the Letter of Confirmation of Marital Status is 150 days from the date the letter is issued.
- Section 28(6), Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 [Act 164] has stated as follows:
“The Assistant Registrar General and the Registrar Superintendent may be subject to any general or special direction from the Registrar General exercising any powers and duties of the Registrar General conferred and discharged by this Act.”
APPLICATION FOR CONFIRMATION OF MARITAL STATUS FOR USE in the country. FOR THE PURPOSE OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MALAYSIAN CITIZEN SPOUSE AND A NON-MALAYSIAN CITIZEN SPOUSE (DECISION TO REVIEW A FOREIGN BACHELOR’S CERTIFICATE).
- Form NRD.KC09 which has been filled in completely and supporting documents;
- The validity period is 6 months or as stated on the document;
- The applicant’s Oath shall be related to the latest marital status such as never married /cohabiting, etc.;
- Form NRD.KC01B (if the applicant is not yet 21 years old)
- Form NRD.KC01D (if the female applicant is 16 years old or under 18 years old)

a) Valid passport and Visa (ORIGINAL and copy of page containing personal information as well as date of latest arrival in Malaysia); or
b) Special Pass for the purpose of marriage.

h) Name /Identity Card Change Confirmation Document or other information that is different from the submitted document (if relevant).
i) Gender Verification Document (if applicable).
j) For Vietnamese citizens, all documents submitted need to be confirmed in advance by the Vietnamese Embassy Office in Malaysia.
k) Ensure that all documents submitted by the spouse (Non-Citizen) have been confirmed by the spouse’s National Embassy Office in Malaysia or the Malaysian Embassy Office in the Applicable Country and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KLN) Putrajaya (Wisma Putra) or KLN Sabah Regional Office or KLN Sarawak Regional Office.
l) Translation is required for documents submitted other than Malay or English.
m) Translations made Abroad or at Foreign Embassy Offices in Malaysia must obtain confirmation from the Malaysian Embassy Abroad or Foreign Embassy in Malaysia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KLN) Putrajaya (Wisma Putra) or KLN Sabah Regional Office or KLN Sarawak Regional Office first.
n) Foreign documents that have been translated by a certified Interpreter in Malaysia, such documents do not need to obtain confirmation from the Malaysian Embassy Office Abroad or the Foreign Embassy in Malaysia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KLN) Putrajaya (Wisma Putra) or KLN Sabah Regional Office or KLN Sarawak Regional Office.
o) Marriage application from Police / Military must be accompanied by a Letter of Consent from the Employer.

APPLICATION FOR CONFIRMATION OF MARITAL STATUS FOR USE library assistant FOR THE PURPOSE OF MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MALAYSIAN CITIZEN SPOUSE AND A NON-MALAYSIAN CITIZEN SPOUSE ABROAD OR FOR OTHER PURPOSES SUCH AS TO WORK, STUDY, PURCHASE OF PROPERTY OR OTHER MATTERS ABROAD (STATEMENT OF MARITAL STATUS).
- Form NRD.KC09 which has been filled in completely along with payment and supporting documents;
- The validity period is 150 days;
- The applicant’s Oath shall be related to the latest marital status such as never married /cohabiting, etc.;
- Application for Confirmation of Marital Status from the Police / Military must be accompanied by a Letter of Authorization from the Employer.
- For Malaysian applicants who are abroad, applications can be submitted in three ways, namely :
- Applications submitted through the Malaysian Representative Office (Malawakil) Abroad:
- Make a payment in Malawakil
- Application forms and other documents will be sent to the Marriage and Divorce Division, NRD Putrajaya through Diplomatic Bag for further review and action.
- The Letter of Confirmation of Marital Status will be posted directly to the applicant residing Abroad or the Malaysian Representative Office in the country concerned.
- The application is submitted by post by the applicant to the Marriage and Divorce Division, NRD Putrajaya
- Make a payment in Malawil
- Include together any supporting documents that have been translated (if relevant) and certified by the Malaysian Representative Office in the Applicable Country.
- The Letter of Confirmation of Marital Status will be posted directly to the applicant residing Abroad or the Malaysian Representative Office in the relevant Country or submitted to the next of kin authorized by the applicant.
- The application is submitted by the nearest heir who is given a power of attorney at the Putrajaya NRD Headquarters or the State NRD Headquarters.
- Over-the-counter beneficiaries
- Letter of Confirmation of Marital Status will be submitted to the heirs
