Civil Marriage Tribunal Proceedings

The Marriage Tribunal is a referral for difficulties in civil marriage matters. Applications will be resolved within six (6) months from the date the application is received.

It is not required to submit the Tribunal application if: (i) One of the partners is now an Islamic convert; or (ii) Divorce is consented to by both parties.

Tribunal applications can be submitted if:

One of the partners does not agree to the divorce;

If the marriage is less than 2 years, the tribunal application can be processed but only a Tribunal Cancellation (JPN.KC28) will be issued; and

Couples are given the option to refer the tribunal application at any NRD office with mutual consent and must appear together at the counter with a letter of mutual consent when making the application. If there is no mutual agreement, the tribunal application must be submitted at the NRD office according to the district of the last address where the couple lived together.

The lawyer/representative cannot attend or act on behalf of the client in any marriage tribunal proceedings.

Child's birth certificate (original and copy)

Proof of documentation for tribunal proceedings such as police report or medical report.

A duplicate of the JPN.KC29 certificate can be made at all NRD offices.

A duplicate of the JPN.KC28 certificate can only be made at the office that issued the certificate. This document may only be issued to the applicant.

Fee: No Fee

Only complete applications will be accepted and processed.

The applicant must submit any supporting documents requested by the NRD officer, if required
