Registration of Marriage at an Assistant Registrar of Marriages (Temple, Church or Religious Association) Under the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 [Act 164]
- Both spouses are Malaysian Citizens and do not apply to Foreigners.
- The Assistant Registrar of Marriages is appointed by the Registrar General under Section 28(3), Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 [Act 164].
- The parties to the marriage or one of them shall adhere to the religion, customs and conventions practiced by the Church / Temple / Society.
- An Assistant Registrar of Marriages may only solemnize and register a marriage according to the religious ceremonies and ceremonies of the synagogue.
- The spouse must attend the NRD counter to review and verify the marriage status information on Form NRD.KC01F from any NRD office throughout Malaysia.
- Couples must make a Statutory Declaration in room D in Form NRD.KC01F before the application is accepted at the NRD counter.
- The parties shall be male and female, respectively.
- The couple shall consent willingly to the marriage.
- Each marriage shall be solemnized in the presence of two reliable witnesses aged 21 years and above.
- There was no legitimate resistance to the marriage.
- Registration of marriage must be done within 6 months from the date the Statutory Declaration in column D in Form NRD.KC01F is received from the applicant.
- Applicant must obtain approval of License or Marriage Consent from :
a) Chief Minister / Menteri Besar or Registrar Superintendent:
i) License NRD.KC01A, if the couple who wants to marry has a forbidden kinship.
ii) License NRD.KC01D, if the applicant is 16 years old but less than 18 years old.
b) Consent of Father/Mother/Guardian:
i) Marriage Consent of NRD.KC01B, if the applicant is 18 years old but less than 21 years old.
- Form NRD.KC01F which has been reviewed by NRD.
- 1 Passport Size Colored Image (blue or white background) Per Pair. Selfies are not allowed.
- MyKad (ORIGINAL and photocopy)
- If divorced (Widower) – Absolute Nisi Decree or Divorce Certificate (Original and photocopy).
- If spouse dies (Widowed) – Husband/ Wife Death Certificate (Original and photocopy).
- Marriage Authorization Letter issued by the Head of Office / Headquarters for members of the Police and Military (Departmental letterhead), if relevant (ORIGINAL).
- Identity documents (ORIGINALS and photocopies) of two (2) witnesses aged 21 years and above who were witnesses during the marriage ceremony.
