Civil Marriage Registration

A man or woman aged 21 or above may apply to register a marriage. The applicant must be single, widowed or divorced.

The marriage application must be submitted at the NRD according to the address on the MyKAD.

The solemnization ceremony can be held at any NRD offices rely on availability of the NRD offices.

Non-citizen applicants must reside in Malaysia for seven (7) consecutive days and may submit the application on the eighth (8th) day.

The marriage application will be displayed for 21+1 days and the solemnization ceremony will be held after completed the displaying period as the date choose are available in NRD offices.

Non-citizens applicants who hold a student pass must obtain a confirmation letter from the Malaysian Immigration Department (original and copy).

Applicants from Islam Countries

Applicants from Muslim-majority countries are required to obtain a religious confirmation letter from their respective countries.

British Citizen

Vietnam Citizen

Vietnamese citizens need to obtain confirmation from the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia for all documents issued by the Government of Vietnam.

Couples applying for marriage registration at a NRD office other than the Putrajaya Headquarters or a State NRD Headquarters are required to obtain a Domestic Marital Status Confirmation Letter. Applications for the letter may be submitted at the following offices:"

Latest extract Malaysian’s birth certificate (original and copy)

If the applicant never have an identity card. (original and copy)

One (1) passport size color photo with a blue or white background for each applicant.

Non-Citizen

MyPR / MyKAS (copy & original)

A valid passport and visa containing information on the date of arrival in Malaysia (original and copy)

Confirmation letter of marital status from the government of the applicant's country (original and copy)

Birth Certificate (original and copy)

One (1) passport size color photo with a blue or white background for each applicant.

If require:

Divorce Certificate (original and copy)

Death Certificate (original and copy)

Change name certificate (original and copy)

ID verification / Citizenship (original and copy)

Birth Register or Adoption Register are accepted for those born in Malaysia if:-

Birth Register with Undetermined Citizenship Status and the applicant does not have a passport and has never intended to apply for any citizenship.

Adoption Register for Non-Citizen as both adoptive parents are Malaysian citizens or one of the adoptive parents is a Malaysian citizen and the applicant does not have a passport and has never intended to apply for any citizenship.

Police officer

Confirmation Letter of Permission to Marry (original and copy) or;

Appendix A (HRMIS) complete signed by superior officer.

Military officer

Confirmation Letter of Permission to Marry from the place of duty.

Not eligible to apply for spouses who have the following Pass holders status:

Visiting pass for temporary workers (Temporary Employment)

Spouse visa for Malaysian citizens (Spouse Visa) for a previous marriage.

Special Pass holders without the purpose of marriage.

For couples who are unable to understand Malay or English, it is the responsibility of the applicant to arrange for an interpreter.

All certificates and supporting documents that are not in Bahasa Malaysia or English must be translated by a certified translator and fully signed with the original stamp of the translator's office.

If the translation is prepared abroad, it must be authenticated by the relevant authority:

The Embassy of the relevant country in Malaysia, or a Malaysian Representative Office in the relevant country.

Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)

Only complete applications will be accepted and processed.

The applicant must submit any additional supporting documents requested by the NRD officer, if required.
